Listening Intimacies, Sounding Landscapes, guest lecture, deep listening and urban location recording workshop, Bulevard Art & Media Institute, Tirana, 2024

In April 2024, in conjunction with the week-long residency in Tirana I undertook in order to complete a series of location recordings for the audio series Sounding Art Histories, an Albanian Perspective, I also invited other artists from Bulevard’s Urgent (artist) Atelier programme to the lecture and workshop Listening Intimacies, Sounding Landscapes.

In this workshop, we carried out a series of deep listening exercises at different sites of sonic distinction in Tirana. Starting in Skanderbeg Square, one of Tirana’s key points of sonic mergence, we moved through the city to various locations of aural eminence, such as the Et'hem Bey Mosque, the central market (Pazari i Ri) and the former National Theatre of Albania, with participants experimenting with sensory deprivation and guided-walking.

Many of the interviews and conversations captured during the workshop will form part of a second audio publication on urban studies and noise pollution in Tirana, set to be released by Bulevard Art & Media Institute in September 2024.
