Isolating Sound Agency GmbH

Noise Pollution Investigation undertaken by Isolating Sound Agency into Torna Small, Kızılca, 34983, Şile, İstanbul, Turkey during the period of 03.08 - 17.08.2024.

Isolating Sound Agency GmbH (hereafter referred to as ‘ISA’) confirms that following a two-week extensive investigation into the premises of Torna Small, Şile, Istanbul, the company’s building has demonstrated no evidence of causing noise pollution which exceeds the legal limit of 85 A-weighted decibels (dBA).

After a series of audio readings (interior and exterior) of the building's architecture and equipment, the report concludes that the unidentified sound pollution that has been reported in the region during the previous six months do not originate from Torna Small. Based on the type of sound pollution reported in the area, ISA confirms that such noise could not have been made by the equipment inside Torna Small’s workspace, nor from the building's electricity or water systems. The common references in Şile residents’ reports to sustained, drone-like sounds of a low frequency which many reported being able to feel as well as hear, exhibit no resemblance to those produced by the company’s lathe machines. ISA does not consider credible the claim that Torna Small’s operating systems could be a cause of the recent sonar disruption reported along the surrounding coastline. Furthermore, ISA does not see any credibility in the accusations that Torna Small’s operations have caused any interference in network communications as reported by Türk Telekom since February 2024.

In conjunction with the investigation and as a preemptive measure to further reduce the minor noise pollution caused by Torna Small’s lathe machines, ISA confirms the construction and installation of a customised soundproofing unit for Torna Small. Following extensive tests, the installation of this unit reduces exterior noise by an average of 20 dBA (from 70-75 dBA down to 50-55 dBA), ensuring that any noise caused by Torna Small’s operations is well below the legal threshold.
